Mildred E. Newborn

	Mildred E. (Adams) Newborn was born April 24, 1911 in Lowndes, Mo.  Mildred was the daughter of the late George W. and Maggie Adams of DuQuoin and departed this life on October 9, 2000 at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home in Cuba, Mo.  She was 89 years old.
	Mildred was united in marriage to Ben R. Newborn on October 19, 1936 in Jonesboro.  They made their home in DuQuoin.  Mildred was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of DuQuoin.
	Mildred was a devoted wife and homemaker.  She enjoyed her vegetable garden and flowers.  She worked many hours coaxing these to perfection!  Her specialty was black raspberries and the jelly was wonderful!  She did a lot of canning, taking pleasure in giving it to relatives and friends.  For years she drove to peach country, bought peaches and canned them.  They, too were worth fighting over.
	She had a busy life but always had time to help take care of the sick and did her share of taking care of relatives and friends.
	Having no children of her own, she raised three of Bens boys until they were grown.  Mildred enjoyed her nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews very much and was a favorite aunt to many.
	Mildred and Ben used to load up their camper and head for Canada to the fishing lakes.  They did this for quite a few years, enjoying the drive, scenery and the big ones that got away.
	She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben, one brother Clifford Adams, one sister Vernita Rinehart, one stepson Jack Newborn and one stepdaughter, Marjorie Ann Steely.
	Among those who remain to mourn her passing are two sisters, Lillian Brummet of Cuba, Mo. and Freida Rinehart of Tacoma, Washington, two brothers Paul Adams of Bridgeton, Mo. and Verl Adams  of DuQuoin, three stepsons Robert B. Newborn of Sheller, Billy Jean Newborn of Tamaroa and James Edward Newborn of Streamwood, grandchildren, many nieces, grand nieces, nephews, grand nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
	Funeral services were held Thursday, October 12 at 1 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. C. L. McKinnies officiating.    Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin.
	 Visitation was at Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 11 from 4 until 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until time of service.
